Bus/Truck Theory Test Ireland
Privacy policy
Last updated 21 October 2026.
This policy covers the Bus/Truck Theory Test Ireland app for Android (shown inside the app as Irish DTT Bus & Truck, package net.mydrivingtest.irishbustruck), published on Google Play by the developer Irish App Services. Irish App Services is the controller of the personal data described here. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Irish App Services.
Privacy contact: Irish App Services, support@mydrivingtest.net. See also our terms of use.
Summary
- No account is needed. The app does not ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- Your study progress is stored on your device (and in your Android backup, if you use one).
- We use Google Firebase to understand how the app is used (Analytics), to find crashes (Crashlytics) and to adjust a study setting remotely (Remote Config). We do not use this data for advertising.
- Google Play handles payments. We never see your card details.
- The app shows no ads. We do not sell personal data, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Data on your device
Your answers, results, test history, marked questions, settings and reminder preferences are stored in the app's private storage on your device so the app can show your progress. The app also keeps a record of which premium plan you own, so it can unlock content without a connection. Removing the app deletes this data. If Android backup is turned on for your Google account, Android may include this app data in your device backup.
Study reminders are optional. If you turn them on and allow notifications, the app schedules them on your device. We do not send push messages from a server. You can turn reminders off in the app or in Android settings.
Analytics (Google Firebase Analytics)
The app uses Firebase Analytics, provided by Google. It receives an app instance identifier, a Firebase installation identifier, device model, Android version, app version, language, approximate location (city, region and country) derived from your IP address, the Google Play install source (how you found the app), and events about how the app is used. Google does not store your IP address in Analytics.
Firebase records app sessions, screen views, first opens and app updates by itself, and records in-app purchases automatically, including the product, price and currency. The app also records your study language; finishing onboarding; starting a quiz or test (with the mode and the number of questions); whether each answer was correct; finishing a quiz or test (with the number of questions answered and the number correct); viewing the premium screen and where it was shown; starting or completing a purchase, with the plan type; restoring a purchase; and content loading errors. Events do not include the text of questions or of your answers.
The app removes the advertising ID permission, turns off advertising ID collection in Firebase, and sets Firebase ad storage, ad user data and ad personalisation to denied.
Crash reports and remote settings (Firebase Crashlytics and Remote Config)
If the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics sends a crash report to Google. A report contains the error and stack trace, the time, device model, Android version, app version, device state (such as free memory and storage), and a Crashlytics installation identifier and Firebase installation identifier. It does not contain your answers.
Firebase Remote Config lets us change one study setting (the minimum number of attempts used by the readiness indicator) without an app update. To fetch it, the app sends its Firebase installation identifier, app version and similar technical data to Google.
Where Firebase processes data
Firebase processes this data on Google servers, which may be outside the European Economic Area. Google relies on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses for these transfers. See Firebase privacy information and Google's privacy policy.
Purchases (Google Play)
Premium plans are bought through Google Play Billing. Google processes the payment under its own terms and privacy policy. The app asks Google Play which plans you own so it can unlock premium content and restore it on a new device. We receive the order details Google Play shares with developers, such as the order ID, product and purchase date, but never your card details.
Email and question reports
If you email us, or use "Report Question" in the app, your own mail app sends the message. "Report Question" addresses it to our separate question-report mailbox and fills in the question number and study language. We use your email address and message only to reply and to fix the question.
Why we use this data (legal bases)
- Analytics and crash reports: our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used, finding errors and improving the questions and screens (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). This data is not used for advertising or profiling.
- Remote settings: our legitimate interest in adjusting the app without forcing an update (Article 6(1)(f)).
- Purchases and restoring premium access: to perform our contract with you (Article 6(1)(b)).
- Emails and question reports: our legitimate interest in answering you and correcting content (Article 6(1)(f)).
Sharing
We share data only with the service providers named above (Google Firebase and Google Play) and the provider that hosts our email, so they can provide their services to us, or when the law requires it. We do not sell or rent personal data.
Retention and security
Analytics event data is kept for 2 months and user-level analytics data for 14 months; the user-level period restarts when new activity arrives. Crash reports are kept for 90 days. Firebase keeps the installation identifier used for remote settings until we ask Google to delete it. Support and question-report emails are deleted within 12 months after the request is handled. Data sent to Google is encrypted in transit (TLS). Access to analytics and crash data is limited to our Firebase project, and data on your device stays in the app's private storage.
Deleting your data
To delete the study data on your device, uninstall the app or clear its storage in Android settings (Apps > Irish DTT Bus & Truck > Storage). You can also clear your test history and marked questions inside the app. To ask us to delete data we hold, such as your emails, email support@mydrivingtest.net with the subject "Delete my data". Analytics and crash data are not linked to your name and are deleted automatically at the end of the periods above.
Your choices and rights
You can stop analytics and crash reporting at any time by uninstalling the app; a new install starts with new identifiers. Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its use, and to data portability. Email support@mydrivingtest.net to use these rights. You can object at any time to analytics and crash reporting based on our legitimate interests; email us, or uninstall the app to stop it immediately. Because the app has no account, we usually cannot link analytics or crash records to a person; for purchases, a Google Play order ID helps us find the record. You can also complain to the Irish data protection authority, the Data Protection Commission, or to the authority in the EU country where you live.
Children
The app is a study tool for people preparing for the Irish bus and truck (category C and D) driver theory test, which requires a full category B licence. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes
This policy describes version 1.0.3 of the app. We will update this page when the app's data use changes, and change the date above.
